Outline of The SOFC Society of Japan

What is The SOFC Society of Japan ?

The SOFC Society of Japan is a nonprofit organization founded in 1988. The original foundation was within The Electrochemical Society of Japan (ECSJ). From 2011, The SOFC Society of Japan is out of the ECSJ and is now a self-supported nonprofit scientific organization.

The goal of the Society is the encouragement of the research, developments, and commercialization of solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) by providing the forum with valuable discussions in a wide range of knowledge in this field, from fundamental electrochemistry or high-temperature chemistry to stacks and systems.

The Society has over 100 scientists who hold individual membership, as well as 50 corporations that hold contributing membership in 2020.

The Society also contributes to the worldwide exchange of information on SOFC R & D by organizing the international symposium on SOFC (co-organized with The Electrochemical Soc. Inc. USA).

Activities

The SOFC Society of Japan has been providing forums for discussing and networking relating to high-temperature Solid Oxide Fuel Cells and related technology.

The following activities are provided to the members:

  1. The Society organizes annual meetings three to four times in a year, in which one technical tour is included.
  2. The Society organizes The Symposium on Solid Oxide Fuel Cells in Japan every December since 1992 in Tokyo, where annual progress and current status on research, development, and commercialization on SOFC technology are presented.
  3. The Society organizes the International Symposium on Solid Oxide Fuel Cell every two years since 1989. From 1991, the Symposium is co-organized with The Electrochemical Society Inc., USA.
  4. The Society sometimes organizes the collaborative Symposium in the annual meeting of The Electrochemical Society of Japan. The member of the SOFC Society can have a befit to attend the meeting with a special condition.
